STEP INTO IT
More often than not in the quest to find purpose, one aspect of our life is often hit the most. It could be financial, emotional, or physical and we struggle to find balance.
While trying to step into purpose, I have gone through several roller coaster seasons. These were repeated seasons when I bellowed in pain, cried my heart out, told God I’m not fit for the fight, reminded Him of my weaknesses, pointed out to Him a few people that I thought would best fit the role, cried out because of lack of finances, health issues and more worries at the time.
A few years ago while working in Germany as an au pair Madchen “female domestic assistant”, I developed a complication that tied me down in pain for 9 months. During the same period, my father died and I was unable to come back home in Kenya to bury him. I could not afford air ticket back home. At the same time, God allowed me to be in the midst of people who abused me mentally and emotionally, but He strengthened me in the process.
In 2015, I lost everything that I had built for a long time. It was the most painful year of my life! I had ventured into agribusiness and I lost everything. I ventured into fashion industry and I lost everything. In the last quarter of 2015, I was unable to walk for a period of 3 months; my knees and feet became numb. I was at the peak of challenges in my life and while at it, I was scheduled for a theater procedure in January 2016.
My story of stepping into purpose painfully may not be too far from yours, or it may differ from yours. I believe we all have, at one point or the other gone through will go through or are currently going through a tough season of our life.
My encouragement to you is;
- It is okay to feel inadequate, find ways to build on the exact area where you feel you are wanting
- Crying is therapeutic, do not hold back, release it all out. I do not fully believe in the phrase “men don’t cry”; if it hurts, get it out.
- Find a support system (a safe place to be vulnerable)
- After all is said and done, let your head be above the water
- Go back and get the basics right. Where did you lose yourself? Pick up from there and walk shoulders high, one-step at a time.
- Focus on the big picture
We all go through difficult seasons in life and this is not about to change. No matter what comes your way, remember that you have the capacity to handle it.
