GRATITUDE JAR
I waited eagerly for this day to come as a groom would her bride on their wedding day.
It was a pleasant and rare Saturday, the sun expressed its masculine side (not too bright, not too dull just the perfect temperature for a date). l wore my short, sleeveless, mustard yellow dress. My hair was well plaited, my finger and toe nails were well done, l had fuchsia gel on my fingers and snow white gel on my toe nails. All over me was the smell of a fresh bouquet of flowers, l was all set for the date.
Little did l know that this wasn’t a real date but an opportunity to add to my Gratitude Jar, l had just returned home from my first speaking engagement where my name was against the title ‘KEYNOTE SPEAKER’ It was my Stellar moment I was both humbled and proud.
The idea of a Gratitude Jar is to make a routine of jotting down the milestones you have achieved overtime or throughout the year in an effort to remember and be grateful for positive moments instead of dwelling on the negative.
I met a friend who told me 2020 is a wasted year, I humbly disagree. Your mind is a magnet whatever gets in there stays in there. If you sit back and only focus on the negative be it job loss, business shut down, failed relationship, or delay in your child’s education milestone. Your mind will record that and keep it, but if you acknowledge and make peace with the negative yet give power to the positive you will realize that in the midst of challenges therein lies life lessons, be it growth, personal development, self-reflection, or ample time spent with family and friends.
If you don’t have anything recorded down, you can easily look at self and get discouraged. Your mind can only hold so much, and often, your memory can be faulty in even the things you do remember.
In a fast growing world it’s important to take a moment and celebrate self, pat yourself on the back and congratulate yourself for doing well, no one can ever celebrate you more that you can celebrate yourself. l encourage you to embrace The Power of You by investing in the Gratitude Jar, you can have a Gratitude Box, Glass, whatever you settle on, be intentional on dropping in there milestones and positive words, so that you can easily retrieve feed self and find motivation to face the world.
