SELF-INDUCED OBSTACLES
It will shock some of you to find out that l struggled to find the right title for this blog.
It will please the rest of you to find out why l settled on this title, as you read along and relate to it. Just like me, you have either knowingly or unknowingly placed obstacles in your life that have held you back.
Obstacles are challenges in life that make us nervous or upset, they can be true or false. Those that are true appear as solid hindrances they can be internal or external. Those that are false appear as self-limiting beliefs they can also be internal or external.
According to Mike Bundrant on blogs.psychcentral.com self-sabotage is among the top 3 universal cause of human suffering, the most pernicious of the obstacles in life as most of what makes us feel bad is self-inflicted.
He asserts, and l quote. “We are often quick to interpret the negative and hang onto it. We stew in it. We cannot just let it go. While this is far from necessary, it is habitual”.
Why do we make the wrong choices so often, even when better options are available? Many of us even fear the right choice, as if something bad would happen if we did what is in our best interest.
Well, some of you may argue and say. I do not make wrong choices. What about that moment you got seized with fear and shut down? What about that day you allowed negative thoughts to get hold of you and ruined your day, week or month? What about this very moment when reading this blog and thinking it is never that serious I have everything in control yet you are certain in your core you don’t? What about those moments you have looked down on yourself, compared yourself to others and felt worthless?
Your greatest obstacle is always that person staring back at you in the mirror. It is easier to fight an external obstacle than it is an internal obstacle. You must overcome self-induced obstacles by getting out of your head into a more empowered place, then and only then will you become free to handle any challenge that may come your way.
You cannot imagine just how much believing in negative thoughts is affecting your life, until you stop. ~Charles .F. Glassman.
